Research indicates that bed bugs may harbor certain disease pathogens (i.e. germs) and are capable of mechanical transmission of certain diseases however, there is no published research indicating that bed bugs are capable of disease transmission via their normal feeding behavior. In other words, bed bugs have not yet been proven to transmit disease by feeding on an infected person and then subsequently biting and feeding upon a healthy person in a similar fashion as mosquitoes are able to transmit malaria. Note that bed bugs have been implicated in the “mechanical transmission” of MYRSA.
